Implementation Method

The tool has been established by Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT), and developed, piloted and implemented in several phases. The tool is now nationally used in Finland. Currently, the English version of the tool has been developed under ‘The Entrepreneurial School’ (TES) project broadening its scope to fit the different European country settings. LUT (Lappeenranta University of Technology) Measurement Tool for Enterprise Education™ is the world’s first enterprise/entrepreneurship education self-assessment tool developed for primary, secondary and vocational school teachers and principals. The tool is a simple structured, web-based questionnaire, which allows teachers to evaluate their own practice, develop their know-how in entrepreneurship and enterprise education, and monitor their learning progress. In addition, it provides systematic feedback and useful tips for developing more effective practice and it reinforces entrepreneurial teaching. The tool evaluates contents, modes of operation, and methods of teaching. As such, it could also be used effectively by schools or by national authorities to benchmark entrepreneurial education. The tool was developed by Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finland, it is nowadays used nationally and internationally. Originally it was developed for Finnish primary, secondary, upper secondary and VET teachers.

You as a teacher respond the questionnaire every 6-12 months.  Firstly, you will register yourself, secondly you answer the questions to self-assess your EE activities through 7 selected theoretical topics (see additional information, below), answers will be saved and you can start answering regularly to evaluate your development. Finally, immediate personal feedback on your activity of enterprise/entrepreneurship education will be given by email, which you can use to further develop.

Additional information: In Finland, Entrepreneurship education is included (since 1994) in the curricula as a cross-curricular theme aiming to harmonise education and teaching, and its objectives and contents relate to all subjects taught. The goals of the theme are to help students understand the society at large from the perspective of different actors, to develop the skills required in active citizenship and to lay a foundation for entrepreneurial practices.

The Measurement Tool for Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Education is a 15-minute self-evaluation program for teachers, based on questions concerning various work methods, techniques, learning environments and networks. The tool is electronic, web-based, virtual, user-friendly platform collecting and processing previous evaluations, through which the teacher can see his development as a teacher. The Measurement Tool examines entrepreneurship education from many perspectives, including:
